What I offer.
I primarily work in a way that is person-centred, with you and your experience at the core of our sessions. Evidence has shown that developing a trusting relationship with your counsellor is integral to healing and making positive change, so I place emphasis on developing our relationship naturally.
I have worked for over thirty years in the helping professions of nursing, teaching adults Skills for Life and supporting people with their mental health. On a daily basis, I have helped people understand their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. If you are feeling confused, lost, hopeless, heartbroken, angry, anxious, numb or bereft I will hear you and offer you compassion, confidentiality, warmth and understanding. I will use my rigorous training, skills and experience to help you find some clarity on what is happening for you, in a way that is right for you. Together we can get you on a path that feels better for you.
If you would like to understand more about 'what makes you tick', we can incorporate some depth work (psychodynamic) to bring some understanding to patterns of behaviours that you are experiencing.
I take a trauma-informed approach in my work and am competent in offering support with trauma related experiences. I am experienced with using grounding and breathing techniques to alleviate anxiety and I am passionate about how using poetry and creative writing can support our mental health. If you find it hard to articulate your thoughts, we can use more creative approaches to help with this.
I would say my style is very 'down to earth'. Life has taught me to be a realist and not get caught up in trying to be clever. If you think you like the sound of that, please get in touch.
I am a registered member of the BACP and work to their code of ethical practice. I have an enhanced DBS certificate and am registered with the Information Commissioner Office (ICO) for compliant data handling.
Fees
Sessions are £50 per 50 minutes and I also offer a no-charge 30 minute introductory via Zoom or phone call.
